Painting secret #34 When painting sunlit snow try using a touch of yellow in your white. White warms as it moves away from you. Paint your snow cooler in the foreground and warmer in the background and you will get a more natural feel. This works for clouds as well, as they get farther away they get warmer. If you have snowy distant mountains the snow will actually turn pink. Look at the little bits of snow towards the back and on the top of the mountain. Note how warm they are! As always remember, don’t eat yellow snow!!! Stay warm, Your friend in art Doug Swinton Note: Painting by Canadian artist John Riordon. One of Canada’s little known treasures.
