Still Life Painting Print E-mail

Join Holly in a 4-day workshop that delves deep into still life painting. Learn design and composition, value, edges and color while observing and painting interesting objects. There will be tons of cool stuff to paint - fruit, veggies, flowers, old books, bottles, interesting fabrics and draperies. Learn how to simplify and edit to capture the essence hidden within the still life set up.

  • This class is open to any level of expertise in acrylic, oil and intermediate watercolorists.

This class is open to the medium that you are working with already. Please bring all of the supplies, brushes and paints that you work with and find handy to have while you are creating. Below are a few things that we will defiantly be using.

  • Sketch book with white paper
  • Pencil and eraser
  • Grey view finder (if you cannot find this item, 2 pieces of a thick card cut into an ‘L' shape will do. About 3"x5" in size)
  • 12x16 palette. Stay Wet palette is very useful for acrylic. Disposable or glass palette for oil

Please bring all of the paints and colors you are using already in your palette. Some colors for oil or acrylic we will defiantly need are:

Cadmium Yellow medium

Lemon yellow (hansa will work as well)

Cadmium Red medium

Alizarin crimson ( anthraquinone red, or quinacradone red will work too)

Ultramarine blue

Manganese blue (cerulean or pthalo blue can work)

Transparent red oxide

Titanium white

Extra's that are handy to have:

Yellow ochre

Cadmium orange

Manganese purple or dioxanine purple

Mediums and turps:

Oil - No hardware store turps please! They are very toxic and tend to give people bad headaches, even if they say no odour.

-Eco house turpentine, Walnut alkyd medium (4oz bottle) or small bottle of Liquin

Acrylic - Gloss medium and varnish and or a retarder

Brushes: It's important to have good quality brushes. If your brushes are old or stiff please replace them

Oil - hogs hair brushes. Acrylic - synthetic brushes

Flat brushes

Size #2, 4, 8, 10,

Small white taklon round #0

 

We will be buying canvases on the day of our painting, the shape and size will be based on the design you come up with.
