Date & Time: Sunday, October 20th, 2024, 11:30 AM - 3:30 PM Medium: Collage Level: Beginner - Advanced Instructor: Eleanor Boyden In this introduction to contemporary collage, we will learn about the various methods that artists have used, including montage: a collage of images that create a new fictional scene, photomontage: photographic images cut, glued, and arranged to create a new surreal scene, mixed media: a combination of images with a range of materials i.e. inks, paint, and pens, and finally assemblage: three-dimensional objects and found materials are combined and arranged. The group will be guided through a warm-up collage exercise sure to get even the most tentative beginner elbows deep in paper! This is followed by useful instruction in selecting materials, consideration of bases, composition, and practical instruction of tools. Finally, everyone will have the opportunity to develop their newly learned skills on their own individual cradle panel and create a unique work to take home at the end of the session. Most supplies are provided: - 9x12 Cradle Birch Panel - Acrylic gel medium (matte/gloss) - Glue stick - Paint (acrylic standard colours) - Magazines, newspapers, fabric scraps We recommend you bring the following supplies: - Scissors - X-acto knife - Ruler - Paint Brushes Optional: Magazines, newspapers, fabric scraps, ribbons, old cards, tissue paper, metallic foils, and old books. (NO GLITTER PLEASE)
