Date & Time: Saturday April 20th, 9:30 – 4:00pm Sunday, April 21st, 9:30 – 4:00pm Location: 7160 Fisher St SE, Calgary. Level: Some experience to advanced Instructor: Bobbi Dunlop Mediums: Oil or Acrylic All demonstrations will be done in oil, acrylic painters welcome I like to keep things “Simple” A process more about painting relationships and ideas, than formulas. As artists, we need to develop a deep understanding in order to make beautiful paintings. What makes a beautiful painting? This is one of the thought provoking ‘ideas’ we’ll be exploring in this challenging and eye-opening 2-Day workshop. In a direct approach to painting our beautiful still lifes, we’ll explore how to set up our own still life and pay close attention to major concepts such as light and beautiful paint quality to create a stunning painting. We’ll stay true to those important “fundamentals” as you learn to have “the confidence in yourself” to pull it all together and portray your subject sensitively. You will not merely be painting a still life. You will be creating a beautiful painting. If you are interested in learning new concepts that will take your paintings (no matter the genre!) to a higher level of “understanding” I can’t think of a better vehicle to explore with paint than the still life ... to make that a reality for you. On the first morning of this 2-Day Workshop, I will demonstrate by setting up a lovely still-life and then painting it, from life. During this demonstration, I’ll explain my process - the decisions made - and you will be free to ask lots of questions throughout. The remainder of the workshop will be devoted to creating your own still life set-up, painting from life, utilizing the ideas and concepts learned from the demonstration. We will begin with a few short painting exercises/studies, taking that inspiration into your larger still life painting. There will be plenty of hands-on guidance throughout the workshop. (NOTE: Students will bring their own still life objects to make this a very personal experience. See supply list). This workshop is sure to transform your approach to your own work. My hope is that you’ll come away with a renewed confidence in your artist-self and a fresh look at your painting practice that will serve as a stepping stone to all genres. I hope you’ll join us!
