Date & Time: Friday, June 27, 6:00 - 9:00 pm Saturday, June 28, 9:30 - 4:00 pm Sunday, June 29, 9:30 - 4:00 pm Location: 7160 Fisher ST SE, Calgary (Swinton's Art Supplies) Instructor: Susan Woolgar Level: Beginners - Advanced Mediums: Acrylic or Oil Painters Learn Susan's approach to transforming reality into bold, captivating abstraction. Whether you're working in oil or acrylic, you'll learn how to see past surface details and uncover the shapes, rhythms, and visual energy waiting beneath the image. Through a mix of demonstrations, one-on-one guidance, and creative exercises, Sue will show you how to: - Deconstruct a photo to find the hidden painting within - Use composition, colour, and mark-making to push toward abstraction - Strike a balance between recognizable forms and expressive interpretation Go from what might seem like a mundane photograph to a dazzling painting by following a few simple techniques. Susan Woolgar will guide you step by step through the thought processes of how to find the hidden painting within a photograph. Mini studies and practice exercises to loosen you up with a little bit of colour theory added in will make for an experience that will let you break free from the shackles of boring photos. Supply list - One bottle CLEAR gesso by Liquitex, - One bottle of matte medium. The following colours in Oil or Acrylic: - Ultramarine Blue - Pthalo Green - Cadmium Yellow Light - Hansa Yellow - Titanium White - Cadmium Orange - Magenta or Quinacridone Magenta - Any cool red - Cadmium red light - Ivory or Carbon Black - Transparent Red - Yellow Oxide - Yellow Ochre - A stay wet palette (I prefer Grey Matters palette paper) - One pad of 12x18 Canson watercolour paper or 14x17 Bristol paper. - One smallish canvas up to 20x20. - One container of tissue paper, an assortment of brushes, small to large. - One 3-inch - flat wash brush. - One catalyst paint squeegee (maybe you have a better name, Doug) - Small set of palette knives Drawing tools: - Small set of nupastels - Some posca markers (I like earth tones) - 3-4, a package of Conte mixed colours (black sanguine, white, brown) - The usual water bucket (Yogurt Container) - Baby Wipes (no scent or alcohol) - Paper Towel - Tape (I like Scotch brand removable) (blue box)
