These brushes are fantastic for oil painting. 
The bristles come from wild boars in very cold climates, causing them to interlock. Given this natural resistance to fraying, they are perfect for the smooth distribution of medium and thick paints. They hold large amount of paint evenly and provide a lovely artistic stroke.
 
I have about a hundred of these brushes in my studio. As the bristles wear down from years of rough painting or washing, the tough bristles continue to hold paint beautifully and become better and better for preliminary layout "drawing" on your canvas or scuffing and pushing around heavy paint passages.
