My Sister’s Garden. Capture the colour, light, and life of a real bouquet on canvas. Date & Time: Friday, May 1, 6:00 - 8:30 pm (Demo Night - Food & Drinks Included) Sunday, May 3, 10:00 - 4:00 pm (Workshop) Location: 7160 Fisher St SE, Calgary. (Swinton's Art Supplies) Levels: Some experience - Advanced Instructor: Cheryl Peddie Mediums Welcome: Oil or Acrylic Supply List: Please view supply list at checkout or on our “Art Workshops” page. Set yourself free from the confines of photos by painting your own real bouquet of flowers. Photos can’t capture the full range of values, colours, or the energy of painting from life. In this one-day class, we will focus on how to: - Block in your design with interesting angles and shapes - Learn how to identify a focal area and lead the viewers eye towards it - Create a sense of volume, without compromising detail - Incorporate detail without getting too fussy In addition, you’ll benefit from my focus on the fundamentals of colour theory, understanding light and shadow, and drawing skills. Open to Beginners (with a basic working knowledge of their medium) through to advanced. All flowers are supplied, and at the end of class you can take home your own bouquet! Special note: This workshop is also a fundraiser for the Discovery House Family Violence Prevention Society in Calgary, AB, in remembrance of Cheryl’s sister, Tanice Roberts. Tanice and her faithful dog, Gus, were killed in an act of domestic homicide by her ex-husband in 2023. To honour Tanice’s memory, Cheryl will be donating all her teaching proceeds, and half of her painting sales from this workshop to Discovery House. Swinton's will also be donating half of the ticket sales from the demo and workshop. We welcome you to donate new and gently used clothing (for the Women in Need Society), and new toiletries for Discovery House. Card donations are welcome before the event through the donation form found at "Checkout" or on our "Art Workshops" page. Cash donations are welcome during the event. 100% of donations minus processing fees will go to the Discovery House.
