Explore how to draw animals with both accuracy and expression in this engaging monthly drawing class inspired by the techniques of the Old Masters. Led by experienced wildlife artist and pet portraitist Ashley Gaboury, participants build strong foundational skills while exploring how masters such as Leonardo da Vinci, Albrecht Dürer, and Edgar Degas captured the life and spirit of animals. Through classical methods, observational study, and creative practice, students develop the tools to draw with confidence, realism, and character. Each month, classes focus on different animals, artistic concepts, and drawing challenges, providing ongoing opportunities to deepen skills and expand creative expression. From Degas' dynamic horses to da Vinci's anatomical studies, students learn how to bring depth, structure, and movement to their animal drawings, moving beyond outlines to create convincing forms that feel alive and dimensional. Using a combination of traditional exercises, demonstrations, and guided projects, participants strengthen their understanding of anatomy, gesture, light, and shadow; skills essential to both realistic and expressive animal art. Ashley’s experience in wildlife and pet portraiture offers practical insight into capturing likeness, personality, and presence across a variety of subjects. In this class, participants will:
• Study animal anatomy and structure using classical drawing techniques
• Practice line, tone, proportion, and gesture to bring animals to life
• Use value, contour, and form to create depth and dimension
• Explore and draw from Old Master works to refine observational skills
• Apply techniques to pet portraits and wildlife subjects
• Develop personal style and expression through ongoing creative projects
• Build confidence through regular practice and constructive feedback Suitable for beginners and experienced artists alike. Join for a month or make it part of your ongoing creative journey.
